One particular use is for testing high power RF signals, e.g. in transmitters where the signal level needs to be reduced before it can be applied to an item of test equipment.


Topwave model TPW-ATT2-XX-3-SMF(XX means attenuation in dB), a 2watt DC-3GHz 3~40dB coaxial fixed RF attenuator with SMA-male to SMA-female connector, is a typical one. The attenuator can be available to 6GHz, 12GHz and 18GHz, stocks in type N, 7/16DIN and 4.3-10 connectors.
